EADS changes name to Airbus

EADS from next year (2014) will be called Airbus Group and have three divisions; commercial aircraft, defence and space, and helicopters. Second quarter profits rose by 14% to 518m euros ($686m; £451m), and in the first six months of 2013, Airbus Commercial recorded 722 net aircraft orders, compared with 230 net orders in the first half of 2012.

Battle of Britain Ace Dies

Ninety-three year old Sqn Ldr Tony Gaze credited with twelve and a half kills has died in Australia.  He was awarded the DFC three times and escaped Occupied France by walking over the Pyrenees.  More details:

Boeing ask for checks

Following the fire at LHR onboard an Ethiopian Airways 787 Dreamliner, Boeing have asked for airlines operating 717, Next-Generation 737, 747-400, 767 and 777s, to check the Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT).  More details http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-23486472

WWII Crew buried 68 years later

The crew of an RAF Boston bomber have been buried with military honours in a war cemetery in Italy, 68 years after their deaths in an ill-fated mission to attack a bridge on the River Po.. The plane’s pilot, Sergeant David Raikes, Navigator Flight Sergeant David Millard Perkins, and wireless operator and air gunner Flight Sergeant Alexander Thomas Bostock, were all 20. Air gunner Warrant Officer John Penboss Hunt, an Australian, was 21. may they now Rest in Peace.

Heathrow Proposals

Heathrow Airport, the UKs’ major hub airport and currently operating at 99% capacity has put forward proposals to the Davies Commission for a new runway in one of three different locations close to the existing airport. This could be built by 2029 allowing for 260,000 more flights per year.  There are also proposals by London Mayor Boris Johnson for a new 4 runway off-shore airport in the Thames Estuary, and to build second runways at Gatwick and Stanstead, London’s other two airports:
