Baklava

An extremely simple interpretation of a delicious Ottoman delicacy, considered a national dessert for many countries such as Turkey, Greece and Lebanon

Ingredients

  • Pastry World Puff Pastry Sheets Rolled / 5” Squares
  • ½ cup pistachios, finely chopped
  • ½ cup almonds, finely chopped
  • ½ cup pecans, finely chopped
  • 4 tbsp golden syrup
  • 1 egg (for an egg wash)

Method

  1. Combine all the nuts. Add the golden syrup and mix well. Add more according to preference
  2. Fill squares as one would fill pastries (i.e., triangular). You can use the 5” Squares or cut squares from the pastry sheets.
  3. Put 1 tbsp of the mix in a slightly heaped pile on the pastry, fold over and close the pastry, pressing down gently.
  4. Cover with an egg wash
  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C until golden brown
  6. Cool before drizzling with golden syrup and sprinkle with nuts
